The main purpose of the studies is the training of IT engineers for independent performance of maintenance, servicing and design of personal computers and servers, smaller networks, information systems and applications, as well as their use as tools. The knowledge that students will master includes:

History and reasons for starting the study

Croatia's informatization strategy is a pivotal part of the overall development strategy. Over the past ten years, Croatia has fallen significantly behind in the development of modern technology and in the application of informatics and in the informatization of society. Informatics is a field that is developing extremely fast. Along with many of its technical aspects, the economic and social ones are also very important. A modern approach to economic development is based on a knowledge society and highly effective and purposeful business education. With regard to the needs of the labor market (within the economy, educational institutions, public sector, etc.), the study of informatics meets the need for personnel with knowledge of information and communication technology.

In the adoption of the study program, the instructions for the preparation of lessons jointly compiled by the reputable international professional organizations ACM (Association for Computing), AIS (Association for Information Systems) and IEEE-CS (Institute of Electronic and Electric Engineers – Computer Society) were used. The program is coordinated with the study of computer science at the Technical University in Zagreb, with the orientation of the program on practical knowledge and a duration of 3 years, in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process. In Europe, more and more universities and polytechnics offer a professional study of computer science lasting 3 years and ending with the degree of B.Sc. (engl. Bachelor of science), where the lower price and shorter duration of these studies compared to typical university technical studies lasting 4-5 years are highlighted as an advantage.
